Each round, start with the attacking player drawing cards until she has four on hand, then the defending player draws until she has four cards on hand.
Both players select two cards, placing them face-down on the table. the left symbolises an attack and the right symbolises a parry. Black cards (spaces and clubs) are low moves, red cards are high moves. The attacking player starts by turning her attack card over with the defending player turning over her parry card. If they're different colours, the attack succeeds and wins this round. If they're the same colour, the attack succeeds if it is a higher card (for this purpose, Aces are high), otherwise the parry succeeds and the defending player performs a riposte. This is handled in the same way as the attack was.
Whenever an attack lands, the round is over and the succeeding player collects the attack and parry cards, placing them to the side for score-keeping.
If both players successfully defend, the round is a draw and the four cards are placed in a discard pile.
Continue playing rounds, alternating the attacking player, until the draw pile has been emptied. If there are any cards in the discard pile, shuffle these and continue, when the new draw pile has been emptied, the player with the most on rounds is the winner.
